Gadolinium Deposition and Toxicity: Humanizing A Life- ...

Why the book matters.

We welcome and invite you to read and learn more about Gadolinium Deposition and Toxicity from a patient perspective as we humanize this life-changing event.

The very personal experiences shared in the pages of this book represent just a few examples of adverse reactions and events following one or more injections of GBCA (gadolinium-based contrast agent). As you read these heart-felt personal experiences, our hope is that in sharing our personal experiences we can provide a glimpse of some of the signs, side-effects, symptoms, and associations that patients from around the world report, what industry knows and doesn’t know, where gaps exist, and where to go to learn more. We hope the book helps to highlight the reasons why patients see and are calling for change in how and when this drug is used. We are eager for solutions to eradicate this toxin from our bodies. We are hopeful that our stories will create new awareness and generate new and open dialogue.

Gadolinium is used as a contrast agent for diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging that provides detailed and cross views of the human body’s internal organs.

As patients, we are passionate and hopeful that #InformedConsent, #Truth, and #Transparency become the gold standard in healthcare.

Gadolinium is a chemical element, with the symbol Gd and atomic number 64. This element, a Lanthanide, is a toxic rare earth metal that serves no biological reason to ever be found in the human body.

Healthcare is complex! Ask questions. Be curious. Be an advocate for yourself and loved one. Know what is injected, ingested, inhaled into your body or that of a loved one.

#Informed Consent, #Truth, #Transparency MUST be the gold standard.

When patient seek help

What doctors say to patients? Glad you asked ...

The majority (not all) of those in the Western Medicine- the doctors can't or won't discuss Gadolinium.

The reasons remain unknown and add more heartbreaking complexity.

For patients trying to understand and make sense of what derailed their lives --- this brings tremendous heart ache and additional stress - the injustice magnified.

Imagine - insurance covers the cost of payment to be injected--- then afterwards won't even entertain it's a problem.

There is nothing worse than to feel alone, heartbroken than to be gaslit, patient shamed, and bullied by the same people they sought help from and trusted.

I could share hundreds of patient examples - EVERY patient has dozens.

For now, I share only my own.

Posting them publicly as one more effort to raise awareness - to say - we have plenty of opportunity to do better.

Summarized here are conversations and responses from doctors I've sought help from, each time new symptoms that have come up ---

Cardiology- I met with four in two states - I offer documented research about gadolinium to each of them.

- the doctor who prescribed a heart test when issues were first noticed - said to me, he didn't expect to find anything but at my encouragement, he would order the test out of due diligence and because I had been referred from the hospital emergency department.

The day of the test, mid-test the techs went and got him, he came in, cancelled the second half of the test, saying he was surprised, I was correct, indeed very sick, gave me a list of things NOT to do, and then referred me to colleague who was a specialist. At the end of that appointment, I offered research I brought to the appointment - and was met with - no thank you, I don't want to learn anything about Gadolinium, and certainly not from you.

- the second cardiologist went through options, couldn't provide answers to my questions about atrophy, referred me to a surgeon in another state and then simply stopped responding - encouraging me to find a regular doctor. Each time I asked - could Gadolinium be part of the root cause - I was dismissed. Her job was to offer what was available.

- the third cardiologist (a heart surgeon) said he would be happy to do the proposed surgery and he was the one who asked if anyone had provided education about the medication that would induce atrophy.

- finally the forth cardiologist said to me - Debbie, I am sorry, know and hear me when I say we can't fix this or make it right. I'm so sorry and I want you to feel heard - go home, live well, do the things you enjoy to the best of your ability.

Endocrinology  (pancreas) - there is a story in the book for those interested. This, after the book published - you're old, the stone that exists today is inoperable, and may lead to diabetes but beyond that there isn't anything we can do.

Endocrinology  (thyroid) - I'm sending you for nuclear testing to look at the nodules seen on Ultrasound. When I declined - he said you either go or don't bother to come back.

Internal Medicine - So, now you think you're a heavy metal expert.

Internal Medicine # 2 - You will be much better served by naturopathic or functional medicine. I am very entrenched and my expertise is in Western Medicine. We answer to a different set of rules and guidelines. I am not likely able to help you with the requests your making, but I will do my best.  With every appointment, he works on the diagnosis that is supported by a ICD-10 code, while politely accepting my research or latest data - setting it aside - never willing to discuss or say the words Gadolinium Toxicity.

I am grateful for his help --- he and I discussed at length I am a participating in a large patient study. And, that at this point, with every organ impacted I am no longer willing to do invasive protocols - my immune system too much under attack and weak.

Orthopedics - You really should seek mental health counseling - after he found and removed calcifications from my rotator cuff.

Food for thought - are doctors in the same situation as patients - hands tied by tools, protocols, and procedures that are limited, insufficient, out dated for the current times and circumstances?

Honestly, no one (patient or provider) feels good after conversations like those I've share above.
